UHA’s Drew McGowan pitched a complete-game shutout and caught Ohio County napping to steal home for the winning run in a 2-0 victory over the visiting Eagles on Monday night.  The Blazers win their second-straight to improve to 12-13 overall, while Ohio County drops its second in a row after a six-game win streak to slip to 15-13 on the year.

With the game scoreless in the bottom of the third, the Blazers looked set to squander a bases-loaded and no-out situation after two-straight strikeouts.  However, with an 0-2 count on Ian Tyler, McGowan saw his opportunity to steal home on the throw back from the catcher to Ohio County pitcher Alex Reyes, giving the the Blazers the only run they would need.

McGowan allowed four hits over the first three innings, including back-to-back singles in the third, but wouldn’t allow a hit over the final four frames to complete the shutout.  He would strike-out eight and not issue a walk.

The Blazers added an insurance run in the fifth on another swipe of home, as Luke Welch was caught stealing second, but Tanner Thomas came home on the throw to double the lead.

Thomas and Zach Naylor each had two hits for the Blazers, followed by Dan Johnson and Ben Stone with a hit a piece.

Ohio County starter Kaleb Gregory took the loss, working the first two innings before giving way to Reyes in the third.  Reyes allowed an unearned run on three hits with six strikeouts.  Christopher Lambert went 2-3 at the plate for the Eagles.
