Caldwell County “Roars” Past Colonels 11-3

For an inning Tuesday night, it looked like the Christian County Colonels might end their two game losing skid. The Colonels had set down Caldwell County in order in the top of the first, and then roughed up Tiger starter Bryar Riley for two runs, thanks to two hits and three walks in the bottom half of the inning.

It looked that way for an inning, and then things changed. Caldwell County would score eleven straight runs, scoring in every inning but the top of the 6th for the rest of the game, and Bryar Riley gave up nothing over the next five innings on the mound, as Caldwell County roared back to take down the defending 2nd Region champs 11-3 at Colonel Field.

The win was the 4th in a row for the Tigers, while the loss was the fifth in the last six games fo Christian County.

Eric Silvy and Wyatt Stevenson came up with RBI singles in the bottom of the first to give the Colonels the early 2-0 lead.

Cody Holub cut the lead in half with a solo shot to left field in the top of the second to make it a 2-1 game after two. Colub then came up big again in the 3rd inning, driving in Tate VanHooser and Oliver Parker with a single to put Caldwell County in front for good at 3-2. The Tigers struck again in the top of the 4th inning when Levin East connected for an RBI single to extend the lead to 4-2.

Caldwell County was right back at it in the top of the 5th inning. Again, it was Cody Holub, this time driving in Tate VanHooser with an RBI double. Holub would then score on a ground out by Bryar Riley to make it 6-2.

Meanwhile, after a rough first inning, Bryar Riley found his groove on the mound. The Caldwell County hurler gave up no runs, and just three hits, in the second through the sixth innings, as his offense continued to build the lead.

The Tigers then put the game away with five runs in the top of the 7th inning. Cody Holub drove in yet another run with an RBI single, while Logan Smiley pushed across a pair with a double, as Caldwell County moved out to an 11-2 lead.

Christian County managed to cut one run off the final margin in the bottom of the 7th when Wyatt Stevenson connected for an RBI double.

Cody Holub had a huge night for Caldwell County, going 4-4, with a double, a home run, 5 RBIs, and three runs scored. He also pitched the 7th inning to close out the game for the Tigers. Tate VanHooser was 2-3, with three runs scored.

For Christian County, Wyatt Stevenson was 3-4, with two doubles, and two RBIs. Austin Fields was 2-2, with two runs scored.

Bryar Riley picked up the win for Caldwell County, going six innings, giving up two runs, on five hits, striking out four, while walking six.

Eric Silvy took the loss for Christian County, pitching five innings, giving up six runs, on seven hits, striking out two, while walking three.
