Head’s One-Hitter Clinches #2 District Seed for Livingston Central

5-8-head

Cameron Head is getting healthy at the right time for Livingston Central, and that may be a problem for the rest of the Fifth District. The Cardinal senior pitched a complete game one-hitter to lead Livingston past Crittenden County 8-1 Wednesday and wrap up the No. 2 seed in the district.

The All-Region righty was Maddux-like in his outing, needing only 68 pitches over seven innings to get the win. Head was perfect until the fourth inning when Maddux Carlson drew a leadoff walk. A walk and two Livingston errors allowed Carlson to score the Rockets’ lone run. Logan Bailey led off the sixth inning with a single for the lone Rocket hit.

Head, who has seen a quad injury limit him to two starts and six games on the mound, struck out four and walked one. In 18.2 innings this year, Head has not allowed an earned run.

Michael Barrow gave Head all the offense he would need with a two-run home run in the third inning.

He finished with two hits and three RBIs. Head and Tate Quetermous also had two hits.

Livingston Central (9-11) finishes district play with a 3-3 record, which makes them the No. 2 seed behind Lyon County (5-1). Both Trigg County and Crittenden County finished with 2-4 district marks and split their regular season games, meaning a coin flip will determine the No. 3 and No. 4 seed.

Crittenden County will be the No. 3 seed since one of their two district wins was against top seed Lyon County.  The second tie-breaker for Fifth District baseball behind head-to-head is record against the top seed.  Since Crittenden County beat top seed Lyon County 11-8 on April 25, Crittenden County will be the No. 3 seed and Trigg County will be the No. 4 seed.

Baseball is the only sport in the Fifth District that uses wins against the top seed as the second tie-breaker.

Crittenden County (13-13) has proven seeding doesn’t matter much in the Fifth District in recent years. As the No. 4 seed, they have knocked off the top seed in the district semifinals each of the past three years.

The Fifth District Tournament will be played May 20-21 at Livingston Central High School.
