Errors Costly in Hopkinsville Loss to Breckinridge County

The Hopkinsville Tigers managed to get one of their two scheduled games in Saturday during their trip to Owensboro. The Tigers were upended by Breckinridge County 12-4 in a game played at Chautauqua Park. Hoptown’s second game of the day was called in middle of the third inning, with the Tigers leading Owensboro Catholic 6-4.

In the game against Breckinridge County, Hopkinsville pitchers had a hard time slowing down the Breckinridge County offense. The Tigers from Harned scored in every inning but one, and used a five run fourth inning to break open a close game.

Hopkinsville actually outhit Breckinridge county 8 to 7, but three errors proved to be costly, and Tiger pitchers struggled to find the strike zone, giving up 11 walks in the game. The five run 4th inning for Breckinridge County got started with back-to-back errors on the Hopkinsville defense. For the game, only 6 of Breckinridge County’s 12 runs were earned.

The game was tied 1-1 after two innings. Breckinridge County took the lead for good with three in the top of the third, and led 4-2 after the inning.

For Hopkinsville at the plate, Landon Snyder was 2-3, with an RBI. John Duvall went 1-3, with an RBI. Caleb Bapp ended up 1-3, with a double and an RBI.

Robert Justus was tagged with the loss for Hopkinsville. Justus went 3 2/3 innings, giving up nine runs, only 3 of them earned, striking out six, and walking three.
