Rend Lake College won its first regional baseball championship in 11 years on Monday — and three former Caldwell County High School standouts are on the Warriors roster.
Rend Lake knocked off John A. Logan 9-6 in the Region 24 winner-take-all championship game.
Noah Brown, Jase Felker and Bryce Thomas are all freshmen at Rend Lake.
Felker, who starts at shortstop for the Warriors, was 2-for-3 with a double in the final regional game.
An eight-run second inning powered Rend Lake to the victory in the deciding game.
Logan had forced the second championship game by beating Rend Lake 7-2 earlier in the day.
Next up for Rend Lake is the NJCAA Northern District Baseball Tournament at Wabash Valley College May 17-19.
The Warriors will take on Wabash in the opening round of the double-elimination tourney on Friday at 3 p.m.
Rend Lake is 26-23 while Wabash is the No. 1-ranked NJCAA team in the nation and carries a near-perfect 55-1 record into the district tournament.
