Fort Campbell’s Tyler MacKay was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle in Tuesday night’s 6-4 victory over hosts Dawson Springs, with the win ending a run of four-straight losses for the Falcons.  MacKay’s big night at the plate helped to improve the Falcons’ record to 4-14, while the Panthers slip to 4-19 overall.

Dawson Springs took a first-inning lead after an RBI triple by Easton Maddox and led 2-0 after two.  The Falcons got on the board in the top of the third on an RBI single by MacKay, and tied the game on an RBI single by Kevin Rhodd in their next at-bat.

MacKay struck again in the fifth with an RBI double to put the Falcons on top for good.  Dylan Johnson followed with a single to bring in MacKay and the lead was three runs after five.

MacKay capped his night in the sixth with a triple to score Elijah Crockett for the Falcons’ final run, and while starting pitcher Ryan Sawyer allowed the Panthers a run in each of their final two at-bats, he struck-out two of the last three batters to preserve the win.

Sawyer struck-out nine with two walks and seven hits, getting the best of the Panthers’ Maddox.  Maddox also went the distance, allowing three earned runs on nine hits with three walks and nine strikeouts.

MacKay finished 3-3 with 3 RBI, followed by Johnson with three hits and an RBI and Crockett with two hits.
