Jeff Embrey, Lyon County’s all-time wins leader for boys’ basketball, has resigned after 12 years as Lyons’ head coach.  Embrey confirmed to YourSportsEdge.com that he submitted his resignation to the school this week.

“I just felt it was time,” he said.  “I’ve had hip surgery recently and want to take some time away to heal and spend a year with my family.”

Embrey was 181-167 as Lyon County’s coach.  He also spent 14 years as a head coach in Indiana and one year at Trigg County before taking the Lyon County job in 2007.  The Lyons won 20 or more games three times, including a 21-10 record and a district title in 2018-19.

The Lyons won an All-A Region title in 2009 and four district titles in Embrey’s tenure.  His 181 wins ranked second only to Christian County’s Kerry Stovall for wins among active coaches in the Second Region.

Lyon County lost three starters from last year’s 21-win team, including second-leading scorer Gabe Board.  The Lyons will feature rising eighth grader Travis Perry, who was among the leading scorers in the region as a seventh grader, and sophomore Jackson Shoulders, who has made the All-Region Tournament team each of the past two seasons, in 2019-20.

Embrey said he has not ruled out a return to coaching but added he wants to be physically ready first.
