Webster Still at the Top of a Close YSE Softball Super 7

We are in the final days of the high school softball season, and the only thing that is clear is that the 2nd Region tournament likely will be a competitive affair. Any one of the teams in the season’s final YSE 2nd Region Softball “Super 7” could create all kinds of havoc over the next two weeks, and earn themselves a trip to Bowling Green for the sectional game to be played on the campus of Western Kentucky University.

1 Webster County (24-8) – The Lady Trojans have struggled just a tiny bit coming down to the wire. They lost three of the four games at the Best of the West, albeit to very good competition. They finish out with games against McCracken, Marshall, and Calloway, so a strenuous conclusion to the regular season ahead.

2 Henderson County (24-5) – The northern Lady Colonels enter their final game of the regular season on an eight game winning streak. They will get a good test before district play begins next week, as they take on Madisonville Thursday night.

3 Christian County (24-6) – The southern Lady Colonels have won three in a row, and are gonna test themselves over the final days of the regular season. Coming up games against Marshall County, Male, Lafayette, and Scott County. Which figure to be a much sterner test than they will get in the 8th District tournament next week.

4 Madisonville (17-9) – The Lady Maroons have won 11 of their last 13 games, with the only losses coming in tough battles with Christian County and Logan County. A big one Thursday night to end the regular season, as the Lady Maroons battle Henderson County.

5 Caldwell County (15-10) – The Lady Tigers may be the most dangerous team in the region coming down towards tournament time. They have won eight in a row, including wins over Christian County, Lyon County, McCracken County, and Henderson County.

6 Lyon County (21-10) – The Lady Lyons rebounded from their blowout loss to Caldwell County with four straight wins. This team can hit the cover off the ball, and if their pitching gets on a hot streak, they will be no fun to face over the next couple of weeks.

7 Trigg County (16-14) – The Lady Wildcats are winning the games they are supposed to win. The question here at the end of the season will be whether or not this team can find the way to pull off some upsets and create “May Madness.”
