Murray scored seven runs early and held on to defeat Trigg County 7-5 on Friday.

The game was the regular-season finale for the Wildcats, who will take a 14-14 record into next week’s 5th District tournament in Smithland.

Murray (13-18) built its lead behind a four-run third.

Trigg battled back within 7-5 behind a three-run fifth.

Three straight RBI singles with two outs — by Hayden Cunningham, Jude Hunter and Andrew Williamson — got the Wildcats within two runs and put the potential tying run on base. However, a pop-up to short ended the inning.

Trigg had baserunners in each of the final two innings but could not complete the comeback.

Riley Stallons was 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Wildcats, who out-hit the Tigers 10-7. Cunningham was 2-for-4 with an RBI while Trevor Cortner was 2-for-4 with a double.

The Wildcats will face Lyon County at 5:30 p.m. Monday when district tourney play gets underway at Livingston Central.
