The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers are headed back to the 2nd Region softball tournament for the 2nd year in a row. The Lady Tigers clinched their berth with a 10-0 win over University Heights Academy Monday evening on the Lady Blazers home field.

Hopkinsville pitcher Marley Hancock pitched five hitless innings to pick up the win for the Lady Tigers.

University Heights had runners reach base in every inning, but the Lady Blazers were not able to convert on those opportunities, leaving eight runners on base over the course of the game.

Hopkinsville’s offense had its own struggles getting started in the contest. UHA hurler Mallory Ladd limited the Lady Tigers to just one run over the first three innings. Hopkinsville finally broke things open with seven runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. Hopkinsville then closed out the game with two runs in the bottom of the 5th to finish the game with the ten run rule.

For the Lady Tigers, Kaitlyn Kaetzel was 1-3, with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored. Taiya Straight finished 2-2, with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored. Morgan Hodge was 1-3, with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored.

Marley Hancock went five innings in the circle for Hopkinsville, giving up no runs, on no hits, striking out 11, while walking five.

Hopkinsville moves on to face Christian County in Tuesday night’s 8th District championship game.
