Lyon County Wins First District Baseball Title Since 1996

Gabe Board is reminded often of the walk-off grand slam he gave up to Trigg County on Match 21, 2018 that ended Lyon County’s baseball season in the district tournament semifinals.

Exactly one year later, the Lyon County senior launched his own home run that kick-started the offense in a 7-0 win over Crittenden County and delivered the school its first district baseball title in 23 years.

Board’s solo homer was part of a four-run first inning that gave Travis Yancy all the offense he needed.  Yancy allowed five hits over six innings and struck out seven.  Austin Long pitched a scoreless ninth inning.

Gunnar Bingham had two hits and two RBIs for the Lyons, who improved to 24-10 with the win.  Brady Darnall also had two hits, while Jackson Shoulders, Brody Williams, and Jake Kleuppel each had run scoring hits.

Crittenden County (18-16) managed just five singles from five different players as they were denied the school’s first district title in nine years.

Both schools advance to the Second Region Tournament that gets underway Monday at Union County High School.  Lyon County is 7-3 against the region field, while Crittenden County is 2-6.
