The Madisonville Lady Maroons have advanced to the 2nd Region softball semifinals for the 7th year in a row. Madisonville moved on with a 3-0 win over Trigg County Monday afternoon at Webster County. The last time the Lady Maroons failed to reach the semifinals in regional play was in 2012, when they lost 3-2 to Livingston Central in the quarterfinals.

Madisonville’s Courtney Patterson was in her form of postsseason 2017, when the Lady Maroons won the state title. Patterson set down the first 14 Lady Wildcats she faced. Trigg County’s first hit came in the top of the 5th inning when Adri Phillip hit a rocket back up the middle that Patterson knocked down but could not make a play. Phelan Dossett would add another infield hit in the top of the 6th.

On offense, the Lady Maroons gave Patterson all the run support she would need. Mykayla Spurlin singled to left field to score Zoe Davis and give Madisonville a 1-0 lead after the first inning.

A moment that silenced the crowd came in the bottom of the 5th inning, when Courtney Peyton ripped a hit down the third base line that struck the leg of Trigg County’s Autumn Durham in the left leg. Durham spent several minutes down on the ground before being assisted off the field with one out in the bottom of the 5th inning.

Following the injury, Trigg committed an error on a sacrifice bunt allowing two runs to score and extend the Madisonville lead to 3-0. From that point on, Courtney Patterson was able to close it out for the Lady Maroon win.

In her final game for the Lady Wildcats, Hannah Colbert went all six innings in the circle, giving up three runs, two of them earned, on four hits, striking out five and walking two.

Courtney Patterson went 7 innings for Madisonville, giving up no runs, on two hits, striking out ten and walking none.

Madisonville advances on to the second semifinal game Tuesday night at Webster County High School.
