Hoppers Bounce Back with 13-3 Win at Franklin

One night after seeing their season-high seven-game winning streak end, the Hoptown Hoppers have begun work on another streak. Ben Huber had three hits and drove in five runs to spark the Hoppers to a 13-3 win at Franklin Sunday.

The Hoppers broke the game open with a seven-run fifth inning that broke a 2-2 tie. Huber had a two-run single that broke a 2-2 tie, and Greg Mehlhaff later delivered the Hoppers’ second gram slam of the season.

Chandler Kendall was another Hopper that produced at the plate, putting four singles in the scorebook to go with three RBIs.

Micah Genter and Jacob Jenkins also had two hits for the Hoppers, who equaled a season-high with 13 hits in the contest. Jenkins is batting .441 on the season with a team-high 14 runs scored.

Clay Simpson (1-1) picked up the win, allowing three hits and one earned run in five innings of work. He struck out four and walked two. Brant Husser and Hunter Arnold combined to strike out four and allow no hits in two innings of relief.

Trigg County graduate Tyler Estes pitched an inning for Franklin, allowing one run and striking out two Hoppers.

Sunday’s game was the only one played in the Ohio Valley League Sunday with the other three rained out. Hoptown moved a half-game ahead of Paducah in the OVL West standings with a 9-4 record.

The Hoppers return to action Tuesday at Fulton.
