Former Caldwell County standout Katie Van Hooser is eyeing her junior volleyball season at Bethel University in McKenzie, Tenn., this fall.

Van Hooser led the Wildcats with 597 assists last season as Bethel went 21-8. She has over 1,100 assists in two years at the NAIA school.

Van Hooser helped Caldwell County go 79-34 as a three-year starter at setter for the Lady Tiger volleyball team from 2014-16.

Van Hooser holds the Lady Tiger program record with 2,073 set assists. She also finished second in school history in aces.

Van Hooser was named the 2016 2nd Region Player of the Year by the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association. That was after helping lead Caldwell to the regional championship game and a 28-10 record that season. She was an all-state honorable mention performer.

Bethel will open the 2019 season in the Mid-South/Southern States Challenge in Bowling Green, Ky. Aug. 23-24.

Your Sports Edge caught up with Van Hooser last week while she was visiting her former Caldwell coaches at the CAB gym in Princeton.
