Three straight birdies to finish her round helped Emma Talley climb into a tie for 27th place on the leaderboard at the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic.

Talley fired a 5-under-par 67 in the second round of the tournament on Friday. She tallied six birdies and just one bogey to get to 8-under for the event.

Talley, a former Caldwell County High School and University of Alabama star, opened play on Thursday with a 3-under 69.

She had missed the cut in her last two LPGA events, but played well last year at the Oneida, Wisconsin, stop. Talley finished in a tie for third last year — her highest finished in an LPGA event — after shooting 20-under.

Talley is nine shots behind leader Sung Hyun Park of Korea. American Yealimi Noh is one shot back.

Talley started on No. 10 on Friday. She recorded birdies on Nos. 13 and 15 before bogeying the 18th hole to finish at 35 on that side.

On the front, Talley recorded birdies on Nos. 3, 7, 8 and 9 for a 32 on that nine.

Talley will tee off in the third round of the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic at 12:55 p.m. on Saturday.

The final round of the tournament is set for Sunday.
