Hoppers Extend Win Streak to Five With Win at Dubois County

The Hoptown Hoppers continued their hot streak Sunday, picking up the rare road win at Dubois County 7-4.

Hoptown overcame an early deficit, and once again got a strong performance from the bullpen to put the game in the win column.

Dubois County used four hits and a walk to score three first inning runs. They wouldn’t score again until the seventh inning.

Hoptown answered with two runs in the second inning. Ben Huber led off with a single. Charlie Fischer walked, and Cameron Hill stayed hot with a shallow single to center field that loaded the bases. Chandler Kendall and Hunter Evans both followed with sacrifice flies.

The Hoppers recorded a steal of home for the second straight game when Jacob Jenkins took advantage of a pickoff throw to first and beat the throw home to tie the game 3-3 in the third inning,

Hoptown took the lead for good in the fifth inning when Seth Bennett singled and later scored on a Huber sacrifice fly.

The Hoppers scored two more times in the sixth inning. Evans laced an RBI double to left, and Brant Husser added a sacrifice fly for a 6-3 lead.

A bases loaded hit by pitch in the seventh inning plated the final run of the night for the Hoppers.

After giving up three runs in the first inning, Hunter Arnold settled down and didn’t allow another run in the next three innings. He walked three and struck out three.

Tyler Walton got the win with three innings of two-hit baseball. Micah Genter and Cam Barlow each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

The Hoppers took a 26-25-1 lead in the all-time series with the Bombers. They have won consecutive games at Dubois County for the first time in three seasons.

Hoptown stays in first place with their fifth straight win and eighth in their last nine games. The Hoppers are scheduled to host Fulton Monday at Hopkinsville High.
