University Heights Academy seventh grader Conlee Lindsey is the first alternate for the regional round of the national Drive, Chip, and Putt competition. Lindsey finished fourth Thursday in the sub-regional round at the Grove Golf Course in College Grove, Tennessee.

Players get points based on the accuracy of three drives, three chips, and three putts. Lindsey scored 96 total points to claim fourth place in the 12-13 age division. Last week, she finished third in the local qualifier in Smyrna.

Lindsey scored 29 points in the drive portion of the competition, which was the second-highest score. She scored 22 points in the chipping segment and 45 points in the putting segment, which was fourth-best.

Conlee now waits to see if she can make the field as an alternate for the regional final September 8 at the Atlanta Athletic Club.

The Drive, Chip, and Putt competition was created in 2013 by the Masters Tournament, USGA, and PGA with the purpose of growing the game of golf at the youth level. Players who advance through the first three rounds in each age group earn a spot in the National Finals, which is held at Augusta National the Sunday before the Masters.
