First Half Goal Holds Up for Lady Spartans in Win Over Hoptown

A first half goal off a corner kick ended up being all the South Warren Lady Spartans ended Tuesday evening. The goal, scored midway through the first half, held up for the rest of the match for the Lady Spartans, as they upended Hopkinsville in the Lady Tigers’ opener for the 2019 soccer season.

South Warren senior Sofia Hasani found the net off a corner kick from the left hand side at the 18:00 mark to put the Lady Spartans up 1-0. From that point on the defensive battle was on.

Hoptown goalie Vy Nguyen was solid all night long, turning back all of the South Warren shots, except for the one goal. Hopkinsville’s defense was also solid, as they allowed the Lady Spartans only seven shots on goal.

The problem for the Lady Tigers was finding opportunities on offense. South Warren gave up only thre shots on goal in the match. Every time Hopkinsville appeared to be ready to make a run on goal, the Lady Spartans used their quickness to turn back the charge before a shot could be launched.
