A new coaching staff and a new attitude towards the game are what you will find when looking at this year’s Todd County Central volleyball team. After a tough 4-17 season in 2018, the Lady Rebels have their sights set much higher this season.

During the off season, Todd County officials tabbed Stephanie Conquest to lead the Lady Rebel program. Conquest then went out and brought in former Logan County coach Steven Lyne to be on her staff as assistant coach. Lyne’s Logan County teams won 105 games over the past four seasons.

For the Lady Rebels to take a big step forward in 2019, they will need strong leadership from their senior class. That class is anchored by Brylee Shemwell, Ashley DesRochers, Brianna Long, and Brianna Shumake.

Todd County Central has some pretty good talent among their younger players, which could see significant court time in 2019. Expected to provide impact for the team are freshman Lucy Chester and sophomore Presley Conquest, daughter of the coach.

If the young talent develops, the senior leadership matures, and this young team can remain patient with itself, the Lady Rebels are positioned to make significant strides during the 2019 season. And, with a manageable schedule, passing last year’s win total should happen sooner rather than later.

Todd County will open the season at home August 19, when they host Muhlenberg County.

The Lady Rebels will be looking to return to the 4th Region tournament for the first time since the 2016 season.

YSE spoke with Coach Stephanie Conquest about taking over the program and the upcoming season.
