Hopkinsville capped a busy first week of the boys’ soccer season with a 5-0 loss to Daviess County Saturday at the Stadium of Champions.

Hoptown finished their first week with a record of 2-2. The combined record of their four opponents is 5-2.

The Tigers had two scoring chances early to grab a quick lead. One goal was nullified on a penalty, and a non-call that could have resulted in a Tiger penalty shot thwarted their efforts.

Daviess County (2-0) took full advantage and scored two goals that carried over into halftime.

The Panthers doubled their lead in a five-minute stretch of the second half on goals by Nate Dailey and Jacob Boling.

Hunter Clark closed out the scoring with a breakaway goal with 10 minutes left.

Manny Martinez got his second straight start in goal for the Tigers and recorded seven saves. Martinez is getting time between the pipes while Xavier Bussell recovers from oral surgery.

Daviess County outshot Hopkinsville 22-10.

The Tigers face their first region opposition Thursday when they travel to Webster County.
