The Heritage Christian Academy soccer team welcomed KCAA royalty to Hopkinsville on Saturday, with eight-time defending state champions Somerset Christian School knocking off the Warriors 3-1 on a day when the heat took its toll on both teams.

The Cougars started on the front foot and made the pressure count when Tristan Moore drew a foul in the 18-yard box for a penalty kick.  Mason Cunnigan converted for a 1-0 Somerset lead with just under 15 minutes played.

Somerset doubled the advantage with 16 minutes left in the first half when Jon Moore found the back of the net off an assist from Cunnigan and the Cougars led 2-0 at the half.

With 10 minutes played in the second half, the tide began to turn as Somerset seemed to wear down and the Warriors began to see more of the ball and put pressure on the Cougar defense.  HCA got back in the game with in the 50th minute when Thomas West pounced on a loose ball after a free kick and scored from close range.

The game was back and forth over the next 20 minutes, but a Warrior mistake allowed Moore a free look at goal and he made no mistake for his second of the day.  Neither team could muster much offense the rest of the way in the stifling heat and the Cougars held on for the 3-1 victory.

The Warriors have almost a week off before they go on the road to face North Hardin on September 6.
