Lady Blazers Hang On for All-A Region Title Over Fort Campbell

University Heights Academy won another Girls’ All-A Classic region title, but Fort Campbell made them work for it as the Lady Blazers held on for a 2-1 win Thursday at Fryar Stadium.

Grace Pape bended in a corner kick eight minutes into the second half to break a 1-1 tie and ultimately proved to be the game-winner.

Fort Campbell struck first as Aria DeSilva rebounded a corner kick in front of the net and banged it home for a 1-0 lead 14 minutes in.

The Lady Falcons controlled the midfield and the tempo for the first 20 minutes until UHA found their footing. Sarah Covington knotted the game at 1-1 when she scored on a breakaway with seven minutes left in the half.

UHA outshot Fort Campbell 10-3 in the first half and 22-7 for the game. Fort Campbell had two good looks in the final five minutes, but Lainey Burman turned them both away. The Lady Blazer keeper had six saves on the night.

Fort Campbell’s defense played well for a second straight game, with Angel Manalang saving nine shots. The Lady Falcons see their five-game winning streak end as they drop to 6-3 on the season. They travel to Madisonville Tuesday.

UHA improves to 4-2 and extends their All-A region tourney streak to 20 straight games. The Lady Blazers will host Murray in the All-A sectional round next week. The date and time will be announced later.
