The last time the Marion County Knight faced off against the Hoptown Tigers in the Boots & Butts Soccer Classic, the Tigers steamrolled the team from Lebanon, coming up with a 10-0 win. Saturday, it was a bit more competitive, still the result was never really in doubt as the Tigers picked up a 4-1 win in their opening match of this year’s classic.

The Tigers got things started early in the match. Steven Hermosillo found the ball in front of the net and worked it through traffic for the goal at the 13:00 mark to put Hopkinsville up 1-0.

Late in the half, at the 38:00 mark, Tyler Greenwell spun in front of the goal and drilled a shot past the goalie to put Hopkinsville up 2-0 at the break. While the lead was only two goals at the break, the Tigers had controlled the flow of play from the very beginning.

The Tigers then sealed the win early in the second half. Just a minute in, Greenwell found himself open on the left side and made it 3-0. Greenwell then completed his hat trick on a header coming off a nifty assist from Jose Favela at the 48:00 mark to push the lead out to 4-0.

Marion County was able to avoid the shutout later in the second half. Eitel Cucul came up with a header on a rebound off a corner kick to make it 4-1 at the 62:00 mark. That would finish the scoring for the match as neither team gave up a goal the rest of the way.

The Tigers improved to 6-2 on the season with the win, which was their 4th in a row.
