Hopkinsville wide receiver Reece Jesse had 16 catches for 257 yards and four touchdowns through the Tigers’ first two games of the season.

He almost matched those numbers Friday night in Hoptown’s 42-14 victory over Caldwell County at the Stadium of Champions.

The 6-foot-4 junior wide receiver made 12 grabs for 210 yards and three scores in the Hopkinsville triumph.

Jesse got the scoring started on Friday with a 4-yard touchdown grab on fourth down with 2:55 left in the first quarter. Mason Marchard kicked the extra point to make it 7-0.

Jay Bland hooked up with Lane Rushing for a 15-yard scoring play at the 5:01 mark of the second quarter. That helped extend the Hoptown lead to 14-0.

Caldwell (2-1) tried to make a game of it just before halftime. Russ Beshear capped a lengthy drive for the blue-and-gold version of the Tigers with a 3-yard touchdown run. That came with 2:50 left in the half and sent Caldwell to the locker room with a little momentum after Blake Vivrette’s PAT made it a 14-7 game.

But Caldwell couldn’t draw even after the break.

Instead, Jesse hauled in his second touchdown pass of the game with 8:06 left in the third quarter. That covered 17 yards and gave Hoptown some cushion at 21-7.

A four-yard scoring run by Jayden Dillard following a Caldwell turnover put Hopkinsville (2-1) firmly in control at 28-7 with 6:17 remaining in the third period.

Caldwell tried to stay within striking distance, getting a four-yard touchdown catch by DeEric Hollowell on a pass from Beshear. That play came at the 1:18 mark of the quarter and got the visitors within 28-14.

But Hoptown went back to its big wide receiver. This time, Jesse hauled in a 38-yard scoring pass down the right sideline, making it a 35-14 score with 11:51 to play.

Hopkinsville salted the game away when Dillard ran 21 yards for a touchdown with 3:13 to go in the contest, pushing the final margin to 42-14.

Bland completed 17 of 27 passes for 265 yards for Hoptown with four TDs. Dillard added 76 yards and two scores on the ground.

Caldwell got 125 yards from Hollowell. Beshear completed 14 of 21 passes for 149 yards with one interception.

Hoptown had 396 total yards in the tilt while Caldwell amassed 330.

Hopkinsville visits Henderson County next week while Caldwell travels to Crittenden County.
