Former Caldwell County standout Elijah Sindelar has been named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in Purdue’s win over Vanderbilt on Sept. 7.

In leading the Boilermakers to a 42-24 victory, Sindelar became the first Purdue quarterback with 500 passing yards and five passing touchdowns since Kyle Orton against Indiana on Nov. 20, 2004. Sindelar passed for 509 yards, tied for the sixth-most in school history. Sindelar added a rushing touchdown late in the contest to become the first Purdue player to account for six touchdowns in a game since Curtis Painter threw for six scores against Eastern Illinois on Sept. 8, 2007.

Sindelar’s 519 yards of total offense rank fifth all-time, while his five touchdown passes are tied for fifth. Sindelar is the first Boilermaker to pass for 400-plus yards in back-to-back games since Drew Brees in 1998 and the first to throw four or more touchdown passes in consecutive games since Painter in 2007.

Sindelar completed 34 of 52 passes against the Commodores.

Through two games, Sindelar leads the country with 932 passing yards and an average of 484.0 yards of total offense per game. He shares the top spot with nine passing touchdowns (also Joe Burrow of LSU and Anthony Gordon of Washington State) and ranks second with 68 completions.
