Caldwell County got four first-half goals from Grayden Miller and went on to defeat Lyon County 8-0 on Thursday — the Tigers avenging a 2-1 loss to the Lyons earlier this season during the regional All ‘A’ Classic.

Miller, a freshman, finished the night with five goals while Hugo Lopez scored three times for the Tigers at Powell Field in Eddyville.

Caldwell (2-7-1) was able to feed passes through to Miller on several occasions in the first 40 minutes, helping the Tigers build a 5-0 lead at the break.

Lyon (2-9-1) was unable to generate many scoring opportunities at the other end.

Miller’s first goal came in the 14th minute when he got behind the defense and beat the keeper to give Caldwell a 1-0 lead.

Miller struck again in the 25th minute. Again, he took a pass through the middle, dribbled in and pushed a shot past the keeper to make it 2-0.

Hugo Lopez scored from the left side in the 27th minute to extend Caldwell ‘s lead to 3-0.

Miller then scored again in the 31st and 39th minutes to give the Tigers a five-goal cushion at halftime.

Miller found the net early in the second half for his fifth tally of the night.

Lopez scored two more times before the night was over, helping to extend the final margin to 8-0.

Blake Vivrette recorded three assists for the Tigers while Weston Phelps and Haiden Ball each had one assist.

Caldwell held a 19-7 advantage in shots in the contest.

Josh Hagan had seven saves for the Tigers to record the shutout.

The Tigers will next host Hopkins County Central on Tuesday.
