Lady Wildcats Hold Off Crittenden to Remain Unbeaten in District Play

9-17-kelly

Trigg County gave Sean Miller his first win as girls’ soccer coach and stayed unbeaten in district play with a 3-2 win at Crittenden County Tuesday.

Miller is heading up the Lady Wildcats for the second straight game following the weekend resignation of Matt Harper as head coach. Ashlee Wyatt scored her 16th goal of the season in the 20th minute to put the Lady Wildcats ahead 1-0.

Crittenden County countered with a goal from Taylor Guess just two minutes later to tie the game at 1-1, which stood up into halftime.

Avery Harper gave Trigg a lead they would not relinquish when she found the back of the net 10 minutes into the second half. Kara Southwood added some insurance just two minutes later for a 3-1 lead.

Trigg saw Crittenden County cut the deficit to 3-2 in the 60th minute, but the Lady Wildcat defense held off a late charge. Kenzie Young had 12 saves in goal for the Lady Wildcats.

Trigg County improved to 6-6 on the season and 2-0 in district play. They will see Lyon County Monday and Crittenden County again Tuesday. A win Monday would give the Lady Wildcats the top seed in the district tournament and an automatic berth into the region tournament. Before then, they will play at Hopkins County Central Thursday.

Crittenden County fell to 0-10 overall and 0-3 in the district.
