The volleyball teams of the 2nd Region’s two schools known as the Lady Colonels met Thursday night in Colonel Gym in Hopkinsville, with Henderson County pulling out close wins in the first two sets before pulling away in the third for a 3-0 victory.

Henderson County boasts the region’s best record at 15-6, and it jumped out to a 4-1 lead to start the first set.  Christian County answered, and after a Macy Baker kill the set was tied 9-9.  The score was tied six more times until Henderson pulled back ahead at 19-17, forcing a Christian County timeout.  Henderson closed on a 6-2 run to take the set 25-19.

The second set followed a similar pattern, with the teams battling back-and-forth before Henderson called a timeout after Christian’s Lanie Bivins got a kill to tie the set at 10-10.  Henderson responded out of the stoppage, going on a 4-0 spurt and eliciting a timeout from Christian County coach Rick Erickson.  Christian County made a final run to pull within 3 at 15-18 after a Baker kill, but it wouldn’t get any closer in an 18-25 loss.

Christian County started brightly in the third, taking an 8-2 advantage after kills by Paris Buckner and Bivins.  However, Henderson County was back even at 9-9, before capping the set and the match with a 16-2 run.

Christian County is off until Tuesday when it goes on the road to face Bowling Green.  The Lady Purples are on a four-game losing streak and stand at 9-9 overall.

Henderson County has only surrendered a single set on an eight-game winning streak and will look to keep rolling at Daviess County on Monday.
