Lady Blazers Run Set Streak to 15 in Sweep of Hoptown

The University Heights Academy Lady Blazers volleyball team is on a roll. Not just any roll either. The Lady Blazers have not only won their last five matches, but they have won 15 sets and lost none during that stretch.

The latest sweep came Thursday night as the Lady Blazers took down Hopkinsville in straight sets to stay unbeaten in district play.

In the opening set, UHA scored the first four points and never trailed. The closest the Lady Tigers would get was at 5-2. After that, the Lady Blazers went on an 8-1 spurt to go up 13-3. University Heights would lead by as many as 14, before closing out the set at 25-12. Meghan Adams led the way for UHA with four kills in the set. Clarissa Miller and Evelyn Morales each had two kills and an ace.

The second set was a bit more of a battle. UHA battled their way out to an early 5-4 lead. From there, the Lady Blazers went on a 9-1 run to go up 14-5. Hoptown fought back to get as close 17-16. The Lady Blazers responded with five staight points of their own and then went on to take the set 25-18. Eveyln Morales and Clarissa Miller had five kills each. Lily Hendricks added three aces. Hope Pace had two kills and two aces for Hopkinsville.

The third set was much like the second. UHA jumped out to a 10-3 lead, only to see Hopkinsville battle back to within three at 16-13. But that would be as close as the Lady Tigers could get, as UHA closed out the set and the match with a 25-18 win. UHA had a balanced effort in the set with solid play from Katie Beth Stevens, Beth Peebles, Zipporah Brechwald, Lily Hendricks, and Evelyn Morales.

For the match for the Lady Blazers, Meghan Adams – 11 kills, 14 digs, 1 solo block; Lily Hendricks – 2 kills, 16 digs, 4 aces, 3 assists; Clarissa Miller – 3 kills, 8 digs, 2 aces, 1 solo and 1 assist block; Evelyn Morales – 9 kills, 4 digs, 2 aces, 1 solo and 1 assist block; Beth Peebles- 28 assists, 5 digs, 1 kill; Katie Beth Stevens – 3 kills.

With the win, UHA improves to 11-2 overall and 4-0 in district play. Hopkinsville falls to 4-8 overall and 1-2 in 8th District action.
