The Fort Campbell Lady Falcons locked up the #3 seed in the 8th District tournament with an important win Monday evening. The Lady Falcons outlasted a short handed Christian County squad, which put up a game effort, especially in the second half, winning by the final score of 4-2.

The Lady Colonels were down six players due to injuries, which had occurred primarily over the past several days.

In the first half it looked like the Lady Falcons might cruise to a big win. Lindsey Molinelli took a shot that had gotten away from the goalie and helped to push it to the point where the ball and the goalie both crossed the goal line to give Fort Campbell a 1-0 lead at the 07:30 mark. Just two and a half minutes later, Cat Martineau took a shot from the right hand side that deflected off the goal post and into the net to extend the lead to 2-0.

Martineau scored her second goal of the night at the 23:00 mark, on a shot that deflected off the head of a defender into the net to make the Fort Campbell lead 3-0. That would be the lead the Lady Falcons would take to the break. Fort Campbell had controlled the flow of the game for much of the half, keeping the Lady Colonels in their defensive end of the field.

The first part of the second half was spent moving up and down the field without either team gaining much advantage. The Lady Colonels finally broke through when Autumn Bell took a perfect crossing pass and then drilled a shot into the net to trim the lead to 3-1 at the 58:00 mark.

Fort Campbell quickly responded to the move by Christian County. Just a minute later, Aria De Silva broke clear on a run down the left side of the field and found the net to push the lead back out to three goals at 4-1.

The Lady Colonels made another move to get back into the match at the 69:00. Maddyson McCain took the rebound off a corner shot and drove it passed a screened off goalie to make it 4-2. Christian County pushed hard the final 11 minutes to try and get even closer, but Fort Campbell goalie Angel Manalang and the rest of the Lady Falcon defense was able to fend off the Lady Colonels for the rest of the match.

With the win, Fort Campbell takes the #3 seed for the 8th District tournament, which will earn them a semifinal match against Hopkinsville. Christian County will have the #4 seed and a semifinal match against University Heights.
