Kentucky coach John Calipari has seemed to be everywhere recruiting in recent weeks — except Marshall County.

That’s where junior point guard Zion Harmon, a top 35 player in the 2021 recruiting class, plays. He has Kentucky among his final seven schools despite no recent visits from the UK staff or not having a Kentucky scholarship offer.

Considering the quality of offers Harmon does have, I wondered what might be the reason that he has no Kentucky offer so I asked Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers.com, a terrific basketball recruiting analyst.

“Well, seems like he’d fit in at UK, it’s just a matter if Cal believes he’s a fit and obviously in that class (Devin) Askew is a priority right now, but if he reclassifies (to 2020) I think Harmon could get the call,” Weingarten said.

Askew will make his college choice next month. He’s said he won’t reclassify, but that can always change.

“He’s talented, a very crafty guard and has major upside,” Weingarten said. “But the questions surrounding his eligibility and all of that is you know, not concerning, but questions would be asked.”

After sitting out last year following a transfer, Harmon is eligible to play at Marshall County this season where the Marshals are expected to be a contender in the First Region.
