Defense has been the mantra for much of the second half of the season for the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers. It turned out to be again “the theme” of the night Thursday, as the Lady Tigers went on the road and shut out Trigg County 2-0.

The win was the second in a row for Hopkinsville. The shutout was the 8th in the last ten matches for the Lady Tigers. Seven of those shutouts have resulted in a win. The only one that did not was a 0-0 tie at Caldwell County.

The game was a scoreless battle through the first half. Hopkinsville was able to take advantage of a foul call on Trigg County in the box at the 69:00 mark. Sarah Johnston drilled the penalty kick to give Hopkinsville a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Tigers would get an insurance goal inside the final two minutes when Johnston scored again, this time off an assist from Laney Wilson, to make it 2-0.

With the win, Hopkinsville finishes the regular season at 10-8-1.

Trigg County falls to 8-10-0 with the loss in their regular season finale.
