UHA Makes It 9 in a Row With Hard Earned Sweep of Christian County

One night after they took Hopkinsville to five sets before losing a tough one, the Christian County Lady Colonels fell in straight sets to University Heights, but the Lady Blazers had to come from behind in both the first and third sets to pick up their ninth straight win.

In the opening set, the two teams traded the lead back and forth early, before the Lady Colonels eased their way out to a 15-10 lead. The lead was still five at 18-13, when the Lady Blazers made their move. Behind the attacking play of Clarissa Miller and Meghan Adams, and the sets from Beth Peebles, UHA went on a 10-4 run to grab a 23-22 lead. Meghan Adams’ fifth kill of the would end up closing out a 25-23 Lady Blazer win to go up 1-0.

The second set was close during the opening moments. However, with UHA leading Christian County 10-7, the Lady Blazers scored seven in a row to go up 17-7, and effectively end the set. UHA finished out with a 25-11 win to take a two sets to none lead.

The set that the Lady Colonels will look back on with “what if” in their minds, will be the third set of the match. Christian County opened the set 6-0. The lead would grow to eight points at 10-2. The Lady Colonels were still up by eight at 19-11, when UHA kicked it up to a whole other gear. The Lady Blazers scored seven in a row to trim the lead to 19-18, and the battle to the finish was on. Trailing 23-22, UHA scored the final three points of the set, finishing with a kill from Evelyn Morales, to win the set 25-23, and close out the sweep of the Lady Colonels.

Katie Beth Stevens had 11 kills on the night. Meghan Adams finished with ten kills for UHA.

Macy Baker had ten kills for Christian County. The Lady Colonels had some big moments from freshman Lanie Bivins as well.

UHA is now 14-2 overall, and 6-0 in the district. During their nine game winning streak, the Lady Blazers have lost only one set.

Christian County falls to 8-15 overall, and 2-4 in 8th District play.

Both teams are headed off to Paducah this weekend for the annual Quad State Tournament.
