Young Trigg Runners Shine at Greater Louisville Classic

Trigg County put up some personal best times Saturday as they ran in the Greater Louisville Classic at Tom Sawyer State Park against some of the best runners in several states.

Eighth grader Riley Brame led the Trigg County runners with a 148th place finish. She covered the 3.1-mile course in a time of 22:10. Trinity Cavanaugh finished 153rd in a time of 22:14. She was followed across the line by Gracie Hill (161st, 22:29); DeDe Barbee (218th, 23:42); Kylie Alford (229th, 23:55); Zoe Miller (269th, 25:22); and Mari Kate Ricks (271st, 25:25).

As a team, Trigg County totaled 790 points to finish 31st out of 42 teams in the girls’ varsity competition.

On the boys’ side, freshman Austin Cavanaugh broke 17 minutes for the first time in his career. He ran a time of 16:43 over the 3.1-mile course and finished 36th in a race that had 407 runners.

Riley Thompson was the next Trigg runner to cross the line in a time of 18:28, good for 219th place. He was followed by Marshall Jenkins (226th, 18:30); Alex Skinner (269th, 19:00); Jonathan Williams (280th, 19:06); Timmy Cannon (330th, 19:55); and Apolo Blackbear-Francis (351st, 20:28)

Madison Central’s Conner O’Shea won the race in a time of 15:16.

As a team, Trigg County totaled 935 points and finished 35th out of 57 teams in the boys’ varsity race.
