Caldwell County Extends District Championship String to 13

Caldwell County ran its winning streak against Madisonville-North Hopkins to 30 straight while extending its district championship string to 13.

The Lady Tigers turned back the Lady Maroons 3-0 Thursday night in the 7th District championship game at the CAB gym in Princeton. Caldwell won by scores of 25-23, 25-14, 25-18.

Madisonville (16-19) kept the first set tight. The Lady Maroons were as close as 23-22 before Caldwell won the two of the final three points.

Caldwell (21-13) opened up leads early in the second and third sets, but had to fend off Madisonville rallies to post the straight-victory.

Junior Olivia Mitchell led the Lady Tigers with 29 kills, a block, seven digs and three aces.

Mary Tays added eight kills and five digs for Caldwell, which played without Abby Griggs, who continues to be out with an illness. The Lady Tigers hope to have Griggs back next week for the regional tournament.

Senior Savanna Tays tallied 28 set assists and four digs for the Lady Tigers. Kendyll Prowell had 12 set assists, two kills and two digs.

Adi Sullenger had nine digs and two aces while Riley Thomas recorded nine digs and one ace.

Addi Perkins had two digs. Kynady Thomas had a kill and a block. Savannah Scott had a kill.

Caldwell improved to 32-5 all-time against Madisonville.

Madison McCabe had 16 kills and two blocks for the Lady Maroons along with 23 digs. Natalie Collier had 11 kills, a block and 14 digs.

Both teams advance to the 2nd Region tournament, which Madisonville-North Hopkins will host next week. The draw is scheduled for Friday morning in Madisonville.
