Emma Talley tied the low round of the day with a 5-under-par 66 and is now alone in second place at LPGA Q-Series in Pinehurst, N.C.

The former University of Alabama standout found six birdies on the day and is one shot back of the lead at 8-under overall.

In her sophomore campaign on the LPGA Tour, the Caldwell County High School grad made 23 starts and played the weekend 11 times with a season-best of tied for the 11th at the Marathon Classic presented by Dana. The year didn’t quite meet her standards and after a slow start on Pinehurst No. 6, Friday’s number was very much welcomed.

“I think mentally it is better than anything because the game felt good the first day, really consistent and yesterday didn’t hit or putt well and still shot even,” said Talley, a 2017 Symetra Tour graduate. “Me and my caddie figured out what I was doing on my putting, and today I putted great. I’m pretty confident for the last five rounds, but can’t get too excited, too high or low, so I’m doing drills and same as every day.”

Yealimi Noh now leads after three rounds at Q-Series at 9-under. Like Talley, Noh fired a 5-under 66 on Friday.

Two players are tied for third at 7-under.

Talley has now carded rounds of 68, 71 and 66 in the eight-round series.

A top-45 finish will put her back on the LPGA Tour for the third straight year.

Talley is scheduled to tee off in the fourth round at 11:55 a.m. Central time on Saturday.
