Lady Rebel Rallies Fall Short in Region Loss to Clinton

Todd County Central fell behind big in each of their three sets against Clinton County Monday and battled back in each one. However, they had no answer for Kayli Hadley in losing 25-15, 25-17, 25-20 in the Fourth Region Tournament at Glasgow High School.

The 6-foot-2 junior hitter for Clinton County had 21 kills in the match and added six blocks as she single-handedly kept the Lady Rebels from mounting any offense at the net.

Todd County fell into an early 7-2 hole in the first set and trailed 14-6 before getting to within 16-11. Hadley then took over with three kills in a 6-2 run that built the Clinton lead to 10 points.

Todd fell behind early in the second set and trailed by six points at several points. Down 19-12, they drew to within 21-17, but Clinton regrouped to score the final four points and take the set.

It appeared as if the third set would be a quick one to end Todd County’s season. Clinton County jumped out to a 13-2 lead and extended it to 19-5. Lady Rebel senior Brylee Shemwell served eight straight points, including three aces, to cut the deficit to 20-14. Todd continued to chip away and extended their run to 14-3.

Hadley rotated to the front and helped close the match for the Lady Bulldogs.
In her final match, Shemwell had three of Todd County’s eight aces. She also had 10 assists and two kills.

Lucy Chester had eight kills and two aces, with Presley Conquest adding five kills and two aces. Ashley DesRochers added a pair of blocks at the net, and Meredith Drummond kept busy with eight digs.

Clinton County (26-7) moves on to play South Warren (25-8) in the semifinals. The Spartans beat Allen County-Scottsville in straight sets.

Todd County Central’s season ends with a record of 14-20, their most wins since 2011.
