UHA Steamrolls Madisonville to Advance to Regional Semis

The UHA Lady Blazers are headed back to the 2nd Region volleyball semifinals. University Heights advanced with an impressive straight set win over 7th District runnerup Madisonville Tuesday night on the Lady Maroons home court.

The Lady Blazers took control from the opening seconds of the match. UHA bolted out to a 6-1 lead and never looked back. The Lady Blazers would lead by as many as 17 before closing out the set 25-11 to go up 1-0 in the match. Meghan Adams and Beth Peebles both had great starts in the match, Adams with five kills and Peebles with six assists.

The Lady Maroons took the early lead in the 2nd set, getting out to a quick 3-0 lead. The lead was short lived however, as UHA answered with an 8-1 run to go up 8-4. Once the Lady Blazers got to the front, they would not trail again. They would lead by as many as 8 points in the set before the Lady Maroons made a big push late in the set. Madisonville closed to 24-23 before an Evelyn Morales kill off a set from Beth Peebles closed out the set at 25-23 to give UHA a 2-0 lead in the match.

It was another big set for Peebles, who had eight assists and two service aces to lead the Lady Blazer effort. Lily Hendricks came up with several big digs over the course of the set to help UHA pull out the two point win.

The third set opened much like the first. UHA jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead, putting pressure squarely on the Lady Maroons to respond or see their season come to an end. But there would be no big comeback in the second match of the night. The Lady Blazes kept rolling, pushing the lead out to 14-2. From that point, UHA cruised on out to take the set 25-6 and close out the match 3-0.

The win moves UHA into the regional semifinals, where they will face Crittenden County. The Lady Blazers defeated the Lady Rockets in two sets in the 2nd Region All A Classic. UHA improves to 29-5 on the season. The 29 wins now being the all time high for the Lady Blazer program.

Madisonville finishes the season at 16-20.
