Tomas Duncan brought home his second career top-10 finish at the Kentucky State Cross Country Meet Saturday to help University Heights to a 12th place team finish.

The Blazer junior covered the 3.1-mile course in a time of 16:41, which was a second slower than his seventh place time at the state meet last year. However, Duncan’s strategy was better Saturday as he ran with the top three for the first two miles.

Seventh grader Tobias Duncan, running in his first state meet, just missed the podium with a 17th place finish in a time of 17:33. He was the first freshman or below runner to cross the finish line in the Class 1A race that fielded 286 runners.

Walter Kunnmann had a strong showing in 41st place with a time of 18:09. Luke Shouse (19:50) finished in 151st, and Chase Hendricks (20:47) finished 219th.

D.K. Schnieders of Louisville Holy Cross won the race in a time of 16:04. He finished sixth last year.

As a team, University Heights totaled 378 points to finish in 12th place. They had the best finish of any Region I school as Dawson Springs finished 21st. UHA also had the 10th fastest average time at 18:36. Last year, the Blazers finished 25th at the state meet.

Louisville Holy Cross repeated as state champions with 55 points. Pikeville (125) was second, and St. Henry (166) was third.
