Caldwell County junior outside hitter Olivia Mitchell has been named first-team all-state by the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association.

The KVCA announced its season awards on Monday.

Mitchell is just the third first-team all-stater produced by Caldwell County. Jessie Stone was selected first-team all-state in 2012 while Carlie Peek was first team in 2016.

Mitchell recorded over 600 kills this season for the Lady Tigers and was also second on the team in blocks, digs and service aces.

Mitchell helped lead Caldwell to a 22-14 record this season and the school’s 13th straight district championship.

The Lady Tigers reached the semifinals of the 2nd Region tournament before falling in five sets to eventual-champion Henderson County.

Meanwhile, Anna DeBeer of Assumption High School in Louisville is the 2019 Ms. Kentucky Volleyball.

DeBeer, a senior outside hitter, has helped lead her team with over 300 kills and over 200 digs to a No. 1 KVCA ranking and top 20 national ranking according to the USA Today Super 25 and MaxPreps Xcellent 25.

DeBeer is the seventh KVCA Ms. Kentucky Volleyball awarded to a student-athlete at Assumption.

Assumption defeated Louisville Male to claim the 7th Region title and will face Breathitt County in its opening match of the KHSAA State Tournament.

Junior libero Eleanor Beavin of Mercy Academy in Louisville is the 2019 KVCA Defensive Player of the Year.

For the second year in a row, Beavin receives the award after achieving over 500 digs and averaging six digs per set.

After winning the 6th Region Tournament, Mercy’s postseason continues this Thursday as they take on Elizabethtown in the KHSAA State Tournament.

Coach Ron Kordes of Assumption High School is the 2019 KVCA Coach of the Year.

This is the second season in which the KVCA has selected a Coach of the Year with Kordes receiving both. Kordes coached his team to an undefeated record against Kentucky high school opponents and several top 20 national rankings.

This week, Assumption will compete in the KHSAA State Tournament in hopes of claiming its 22nd state title.

KVCA All-State Teams are voted on by KVCA member coaches.
