When Paducah St. Mary said it didn’t have enough players to scrimmage at Lyon County on Thursday, Lady Lyon head coach Jeff Doom offered the Lady Vikings some of his players.

The result was a unique preseason contest that saw a Purple team of Lady Lyons go up against a Gold (Lyon players) and White (St. Mary players) unit.

St. Mary had just four players available for the scrimmage, then lost another player with an apparent knee injury during the contest.

The Purple squad outscored the Gold/White group 47-40, with many Lady Lyons seeing action on both sides of the court.

The Purple squad won the first quarter 17-8. But the combined team took the second frame 9-8.

The Gold/White side claimed the third quarter 13-12 before the two squads played to a 10-10 tie in the final period.

Rose Smith scored points on both sides and finished with 20 total points in the scrimmage. Cathryn Brown tallied 13 points.

Kayden Watts scored eight points for the Lady Lyons while KentTavia Matthews tallied seven and Calista Collins had six. LuLu Taylor and Ella Defew each tallied four points in the preseason outing.
