The UHA Blazers used defense and transition offense to get past a cool shooting start on their way to a 72-53 scrimmage win over Graves County Wednesday afternoon at Blazer Gym. The game was the final tuneup for the Blazers before the official start to the 2019-2020 season.

UHA fell behind 6-3 early, but battled back to take a 9-7 lead. Graves County got back to the front with a 6-0 run and would lead 13-12 after the opening quarter.

The Eagles would extend the lead to 20-14 during the early moments of the 2nd quarter, but then the Blazer defense and speed began to assert itself. Behind the play of Amani McGee, DJ Quarles, and Kevin Crump, UHA finished the first half on a 16-6 spurt to take a 30-26 lead at the break.

The Blazers continued to exert their will in the third quarter, pushing the lead out to eleven at 42-31. UHA then ran away from the Eagles, finishing the third on an 11-0 run to extend their lead on out to 53-33.

UHA’s lead would grow to as many as 28 points in the 4th quarter at 65-37.

Three Blazers finished the afternoon in double figures. KJ Crump and Amani McGee each finished with 19 points. DJ Quarles also reached double figures with 14. Will Bryan chipped in with 8 points for UHA.

The Blazers will officially tip off the new season Monday night as they go on the road to take on the Murray Tigers.
