Caldwell’s Girls Press Past Lyon County 62-39

A 12-0 run in the first quarter gave Caldwell County’s girls the upper hand. A 13-0 run to start the third period put the Lady Tigers in command.

Jacey Jaggers scored 16 points to lead Caldwell to a 62-39 victory over Lyon County Tuesday night in the season opener for both teams at the CAB gym in Princeton.

Lyon led only once, at 2-1, before Caldwell took the lead for good.

The Lady Tigers led 19-8 after one stanza and 36-18 at halftime.

Jaggers and Jada Boyd each nailed 3-pointers as part of the big run to open the second half. Boyd’s trey put Caldwell up 49-18 midway through the third period.

The Lady Tigers coasted from there to pick up their first win under new head coach Chuck Mitchell.

Freshman A.J. Hollowell came off the bench hit four 3-pointers and score 12 points for Caldwell. Boyd finished with 10 points. Majah Hollowell and Bella McConnell each had seven points.

Rose Smith led the Lady Lyons 11 points. Gracen Wynn had seven points and six rebounds while Kenttavia Matthews and Calista Collins each tallied six points and eight boards.

Caldwell’s full-court press forced Lyon into 25 turnovers in the contest.
