Henderson Leads the Pack in YSE Girls’ Super 7

Hard to get much of a feel after the first couple of days of the season in girls’ 2nd Region basketball. Henderson appears to be pretty good once again. And, after whipping Apollo, the Lady Colonels hold the #1 spot in this week’s YSE Super 7. After that, still need some more samples to start making much of a judgment. This first month or so of the season could be quite interesting.

1 – Henderson County – The Lady Colonels did nothing in their opener against Apollo to cause them to drop from the top slot. A big 30 win over Apollo is a nice way to start the season. An interesting matchup against McCracken County on the schedule for Friday night.

2 – Webster County – The Lady Trojans are still looking for the number of the “purple” truck that ran through them in their season opener. The next few days will give us a better indication if that loss was a blip on the radar, or possible signs of issues coming up down the road.

3 – Madisonville – The Lady Maroons, who figure to be one of the teams with a chance to crack the 6th District’s grasp on the region title, officially open the season Thursday night against the Union County Bravettes.

4 – Christian County – The southern Lady Colonels opened the season with a tough road loss to Muhlenberg County. They get a quick chance to rebound as they travel to Princeton Friday night to take on the Caldwell County Lady Tigers in what should be an interesting matchup.

5 – Caldwell County – The Lady Tigers opened impressively with a rout of Lyon County. This team will get a pretty good test this weekend, with a Friday night matchup against Christian County, and then a battle with Webster County on Saturday. Should tell us much more.

6 – Hopkins Central – The Lady Storm held UHA to just 39 points in the season opener. The question at this point is whether that says more about the Lady Storm or more about the Lady Blazers. A battle with Union County on Saturday should tell us more.

7 – Trigg County – A tough road loss to Paducah Tilghman in the opener. The Lady Wildcats have three more road games before they get to play at home. All three of those games appear to be ones in which the Lady Wildcats will be favored.
