Lady Wildcats Notch District Win at Crittenden County

After failing to put the game away in their season opening loss to Paducah Tilghman Tuesday, Trigg County made late free throws and kept Crittenden County off the glass in a 53-38 win at Marion Friday.

The Lady Wildcats missed 18 free throws and turned the basketball over 21 times in a five-point loss Tuesday.  They were much better in both areas Friday as they grabbed an early lead and never let the Lady Rockets get to within eight points in the fourth quarter.

Trigg County hit 9-of-15 free throws in the fourth quarter and shot 16-of-25 for the game.  They also committed just 13 turnovers.

The Lady Wildcats held a 25-20 lead at halftime and began the third quarter on a 15-3 run to take control of the contest.  Crittenden cut the deficit to 43-35 with 3:54 left but could get no closer.

Trigg hit 5-of-9 from the field and 6-of-8 at the line in the decisive third quarter.

The Lady Wildcats scored 22 points off 21 Crittenden turnovers as their pressure defense began to take a toll in the second half.

Rylee Bush scored 18 points to lead the Lady Wildcats, including an 8-of-13 effort at the free throw line.  Olivia Noffsinger and Adri Phillips both added 11 points with Phillips also bringing down six rebounds.

Trigg outrebounded Crittenden 26-24.

Crittenden County (0-2) got 19 points and nine rebounds from freshman Taylor Guess.  Jaelyn Duncan added seven points.

The win is Trigg’s fourth straight over Crittenden County – their longest win streak over the Lady Rockets in 25 years.

Trigg County (1-1) plays at Fort Campbell Tuesday.
