Jaylen Boyd Scores TD, but Lindsey Wilson Falls in National Semifinal

Caldwell County grad Jaylen Boyd ran for 88 yards and a touchdown, but sixth-ranked Lindsey Wilson football fell 34-24 to Marian (Ind.) in the NAIA Football Championship Series Semifinals Saturday at St. Vincent Field in Indianapolis.

The Blue Raiders season comes to an end with a 12-1 record after reaching the program’s first national semifinal. Marian (12-0) advances to face Morningside (Iowa) in the national championship game on Dec. 21 in Ruston, La.

Second-ranked Marian took its first lead of the game with 1:14 left in regulation on a Charles Salary scored on a 10-yard run for the 28-24 lead. The Knights added a touchdown with 19 seconds left to complete the win.

Lindsey Wilson built a 17-0 lead in the first half on the strength of a balanced Blue Raider offensive attack and a stout defense.

Boyd, who is second on Caldwell’s all-time rushing list, finished the year with 1,118 yards rushing for Lindsey Wilson. He scored on a 4-yard run in the first quarter of Saturday’s semifinal tilt.
