Down double digits in the first half, Caldwell County’s girls battled back to tie Webster County 39-39 in the third quarter.

But the Lady Trojans countered with 11 straight points to regain control of the contest, and went on to claim a 68-45 decision Saturday in the 6th/7th District Challenge at Hopkins County Central.

Caldwell (1-2) was down 39-32 late in the first half before Majah Hollowell’s buzzer-beater from midcourt made it a four-point game at the break.

A driving layup by Jada Boyd tied the game at 39-39 less than 2 minutes into the second half.

But the Lady Tiger offense dried up after that. Caldwell managed just six points over the final 14 minutes of the contest — and only two in the fourth quarter.

Webster (1-2) led 56-43 through three quarters before blowing open the game in the final frame.

Marissa Austin poured in 38 points to lead the Lady Trojans. She had six 3-pointers in the contest and was 6 of 7 from the free throw line.

Dezeray Browder added 14 points and Adeline McDyer had 11 for Webster.

Hollowell led Caldwell with 16 points. Bella McConnell had 10 points and A.J. Hollowell tallied seven for the Lady Tigers.
