Lyon County wrapped up a busy first week of the basketball season with a 73-55 loss to Murray in the final day of the Marshall County Hoopfest.

Murray hit 9-of-14 shots from behind the arc as they ended the first quarter on a 20-7 run and led 50-31 at halftime.  The scoring slowed down in the third quarter as Murray missed all three of their 3-point attempts in the half.  They outscored Lyon 11-5 in the third frame.

Murray hit 27-of-49 from the field for 55-percent, while Lyon hit 21-of-62 for 33-percent.  The Lyons were also just 7-of-17 at the free throw line.

Gabe Taylor and Grant Whitaker both hit four 3-pointers in the first half for Murray.  Taylor finished with 22 points, while Whitaker had 18 points and six rebounds.  Murray has been picked by many as a top three team in the First Region and improved to 2-0 despite starting the season without two injured starters.

Jackson Shoulders had 15 points and 10 rebounds through three quarters.  He sat out the fourth quarter as he heals from a hip injury.  Travis Perry had nine points and nine rebounds, while Gunnar Bingham added nine points.

It was the third game in three days for Lyon County (2-2), who lost to Cobden, Ill. Saturday in Marion, Illinois.  It was also the first time the Lyons and Tigers met on the hardwood in 12 years.

Lyon County will host Crittenden County Friday at Jason White Gymnasium.
