It has been more than 30 years since the Madisonville-North Hopkins Lady Maroons last won the girls’s 2nd Region tournament. If Tuesday night was any indication, this may be a year that the Lady Maroons have a chance to end that title drought.

Led by the triumvirate of senior twin sisters Courtney and Lindsey Peyton, and sophomore point guard Camryn LaGrange, Madisonville took the Christian County Lady Colonels out of the game early and rolled to a big 55-30 win on the Lady Maroons’ home court.

Behind the play of the Peytons, the Lady Maroons bolted out to a 9-1 lead in the opening moments of the game. Christian County was able to stem the tide temporarily for the rest of the quarter, and end the quarter trailing 15-7.

Madisonville’s pressure defense and the Lady Colonels’ struggles from the field then combined to form a really tough situation for Christian County. LaGrange and Courtney Peyton pushed the lead out to 20-7 early in the second quarter. With the margin sitting at 20-11, the Lady Maroons closed the half on a 10-0 run to take a 30-11 lead into the locker room.

The big three for Madisonville continued to control the game coming out of the locker room at the beginning of the second half. The three scored all sixteen of the Lady Maroons’ points in the 3rd quarter as Madisonville blew the lead out to 48-18.

The 4th quarter played out with reserves seeing extensive action for both teams. Madisonville would ride it the rest of the way out to pick up their third straight win to start the season.

Trinity McGee led Christian County with nine points in the contest. Eniya McGee added 7. Lydashe Bell also finished with seven points for the Lady Colonels.

Lindsey Peyton paced the Lady Maroon attack with 21 points. Courtney Peyton scored 18 points, including the 1000th point of her high school career. Camryn LaGrange chipped in with 13 points. The only other Lady Maroon to score was Amar Lovan with 3.
