Caldwell County Wrestlers Continue Strong Start

The Caldwell County High School wrestling team continued a strong start to the season by sweeping a pair of dual matches in Owensboro Thursday night.

The Tiger matmen defeated Daviess County 54-24.

Collin Teutsch (106 pounds), Cofy Harris (113), Dylan Walls (132), Blaine Hicks (138), Colin Walls (160) and Preston Rogers (220) all won matches by pin for Caldwell while Riley Johnson (120), John Paredes (170) and Cole Sherrill (182) won by forfeit.

Caldwell also beat Forest Park, Ind., 51-13.

Johnson, Hicks, Paredes and Sherrill won by pin while Dylan Walls and Colin Walls claimed decisions. Collin Teutsch, Sam Teutsch and Rogers won by forfeit.

Caldwell’s wrestlers head to Benton, Ill., this Saturday for the Benton Duals Tournament.

Last Saturday, the Tigers placed third in the team standings at the Coyote Classic at West Creek High School in Clarksville.

Centennial (Tenn.) was first with 170.5 points while Rossview (Tenn.) was runner-up with 167. Caldwell totaled 122.5 points to finish third out of 23 schools in the competition.

The Tigers had two individual champions in the tournament.

Collin Teutsch won at 106 pounds, going 4-0 and pinning Hopkinsville’s Trushaun Matt in the finals in 1:19.

Riley Johnson was first at 120. He went 3-0 in the event, claiming an 8-3 decision over Centennial’s Dylan Ables in the finals.

Dylan Walls was runner-up at 132, winning three matches before dropping a 6-0 decision to Rossview’s Ethan Moore in the championship match.

John Paredes finished third at 170, going 4-1 and winning the third-place match 4-1 after falling in the semifinals.

Cofy Harris placed fourth at 113, going 2-2 on the day. He dropped a 6-3 decision in the third-place match.

On Thursday, Dec. 5, Caldwell opened the season by winning a tri-match at Calloway County, defeating both Trigg County and the host Lakers in dual competition.
